(estimated manufacturing dates were march 200, and august 2001) most riders were given no warning signs, some have been seriously injured and the cause for these transmission failures was being researched. yamaha motor corp. usa demanded dealers to return damaged parts back to them or they would not get paid, instead of allowing the owner to have their gears tested for rockwell hardness, magne-fluxing, and x-ray by an independent source. the consumer asked yamaha to fix the engine knock which was not related to the transmission failure and they refused to fix it for one year. yamaha offered to replace the transmission. the consumer felt that yamaha were trying to hide evidence. *scc |
