Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: Camshaft chain tensioner failed, resulting in engine noise and cam chain wear. potential for premature cam chain failure and loss of rider control. service bulletin issued in england to replace tensioner on zx600g1 and early g2 models with a retro fitted f model tensioner. rick.roddewig@kmc-usa.com knows of problem, but kawasaki usa has not issued a recall or service bulletin. kawasaki uk recommends replacing part 12048-1159 (worm drive) with part 12048-1143 (ratchet type) on engines prior to zx600ge053530. i have come across at least two other zx600g1's with excess cam chain noise. note: suzuki had a similar tensioner problem and issued a full recall. i am replacing this part at my own expense, but other owners have no official way of knowing there is a fixable problem. i have researched this problem and have more info. e-mail me. *ak |
