Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: Nhtsa id 00v169000 calls for adding 180 lbs to the front a-frame to resolve trailer weight imbalance when tanks behind rear axle are left full. i experienced the excessive sway - resulting from 30-40 mph crosswinds - referenced in the recall, immediatley following delivery on the trailer (fully empty tanks). adding an anti-sway device to my existing weight distribution hitch eliminated the excessive sway. further, maintaining a 1/2 to 3/4 full freshwater tank (directly behind rear axle) provide diminished "push" when overtaken by a passing semi-tractor trailer. testing the recall recommendation, adding the additional 180 lbs to the front a-frame failed to provide any further improvements to towability or diminished sway. a better recommended solution to this problem in my experience would be the (manditory) use of a trailer hitch weight distribution/anti-sway device combination.*ak |
