Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: The travel trailer above demonstrated excessive swaying on the highway. the hitch was setup correctly by the dealer. on this occasion we were passed by 2 tractor trailers on the open interstate which intensified the already swaying trailer. the tow vehicle veered off the interstate by the swaying action of the trailer, at which point the vehicle and trailer rolled three times before stopping. the tow vehicle and trailer were "totalled". my wife sustained a bad bump on the head but other than that our 2 children and myself were not physically injured other than a few scratches. upon some investigation of my own i have learned of others with this trailer experiencing the same type of problem. after speaking with the dealer it was purchased from we learned that starcraft has moved the axles rearward on new models to better balance the trailers. i feel starcraft was aware of a problem, yet failed to notify owners. i am not presently interested in persuing a law suit, but i would like the nhtsa to make sure other owners and the manufacturer are aware that only by the grace of god is my family still alive to tell about this problem. thank you, david e. crawford. *ak |
