Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: Cup holder design tends to rotate forward and dump cup upon braking. on this occurrence, hard braking was necessary due to another car cutting in front of mine. the coffee cup was dumped forward, and spilled into the center console/gear shift area. this completely disabled and disconnected the transmission due to moisture penetration of the electronic shift mechanism. the disablement occurred in a traffic lane on a 55 mph speed limit road. i was nearly rear-ended several times before being able to get the car moved using a "limp home" mode with the assistance of a mechanic from mb teleaid. i feel that the design allowing the transmission to become totally disabled and completely disconnect due to liquid spillage from the oem cupholder is a serious defect which needs to be addressed by retrofitting a rubber seal or other similar solution. the seriousness and safety issue is underscored by the fact that i was nearly rear-ended on a high speed road by several cars while my car was stopped and totally disabled in a traffic lane.*ak |
