Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: The vehicle is a 1990 mallard, sprinter, 38' motorhome, on an oshkosh chasis, equipped with the mohr-ryde rear suspension with tag axle. the main leaf spring support brackets, located on each main frame rail, failed simultaneously. the failure was metal fatigue. the center of the bracket tore away from the main portion of the bracket, which is bolted to the frame with four bolts. the vehicle is currently located at the selma (california) smog and auto repair,961 golden state blvd, selma ca, (559) 896-1090. the contact person is bob. we are requesting that an official from nhtsa inspect the bracket to determine if a national recall of this bracket is appropriate. the opinion of the repair shop is that the bracket is insufficient to support the suspension over the life of the vehicle. this vehicle has only 40,000 miles over a 11 year period. this failure should not have occurred. we reauest that you research your safety bulletins to see if any other occurences of this type with this system has occured or been reported. please let us know when an official can perform this inspection. |
