Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: Oil consumption is above normal for a new engine. i have experienced the consumption of more that one quart per 1000 miles. dealer initially stated that this was normal for a new engine and would improve after a good break-in period. problem remains. research has shown that there is an acknowledged problem with excessive oil consumption. catalytic converter and exhaust pipes show significant black oily residue. concerned about potential fire from catalytic converter. also concerned about environmental effects. chevrolet needs to take positive action to resolve issue. *nlm
