Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: The brakes on my 2000 grand am began squealing at around 24,850 miles. i took it to the dealer i purchased it from to have it checked out. i was told the brakes had to be replaced. when i commented on having just 25k miles on it, i was told "brakes nowdays only last about 20k - 25k miles". i was told i had two options: one was to spend $285+ and have "good" brakes put on that would last longer and be quieter than options (2) which would be the cheaper version @ $150 that would not last as long and would be noisy. since the brakes were not under warranty and i felt like the dealership was trying to rip me off, i took the car to our mechanic of 20 years who replaced the brakes (good ones) for $140.*ak
