Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I am a nhtsa cps technician. through my work with harnett county safe kids, i purchased a car seat for my 5 mo. old niece in april 03. after using the seat a few weeks, my sis encoutered a problem with it (touriva). the buckle, once opened, would not latch back together without her first using pliers to squeeze on the release button. since this was the first time, i told her to continue using the seat & if it happened again, we would get a new seat. last week (june 24, 03) before their family trip, it happened again. michelle called cosco & they were adamant they had to have the original receipt (which i have since it was a gift to her) & that they would refund her money, send her a new buckle, & she would have to pay to ship items to them required in their proof of destruction letter. i was quite appalled they did not want the seat back to do crash & other testing on it. i had a co-worker purchase the same kind of seat from our sk, have a defect in the harness & she was sent a new seat, not just the harness & prepaid labels to ship the defective one back for testing. since cosco had done this before, i instructed my sister to ask for the same thing. on the 3rd call placed to them they agreed to send postage paid labels so she could send the seat back & they will send her a refund for the seat.. i really like the touriva seats. the slim base design allows for installation in virtually any car seat, but i now have reservations endorsing this product with the way they have treated my sister, a customer. do they not care/want to know if their product is as safe as they advertise? why would they rather see the seat destroyed rather than do testing to ensure the integrity of their product? i realize these are questions you will not be able to answer, but as a technician, i would want to know that any manufacturer would be delighted to assist parents in properly securing their child in a restraint, & to keep their products in good standing with the public. *ak |
