Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: I own a cosco alpha omega car seat that has a latch my child can remove. this allows my child to be able to remove the shoulder straps and get out of the car seat while it is moving. he is only 21 months old and should not be able to get out of the seat on his own. i visited a local babies r us and saw that the same car seat on display has a new latch type in which a child cannot remove it on their own. i called the manufacturer, cosco, and they said that they would only replace it if we bought the new clip. they proceeded to state that the child should understand not to try and get out of the seat on thier own. i have to disagree with this statement. i feel this product is not safe if it has the old style latch. the actual piece is called a" harness retainer" according to the user manual. this is the piece that holds the two shoulder straps together in the center of the childs chest to prevent them from being able to slide out of the seat.
