Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: The relevant facts: 1. 1999 general american trailer tires, manufactured by continental tire company, located at 1950 continental blvd., charlotte north carolina. 2. tires have approximately 10, 000 miles. 3. in april, 2003, 1 tire blew out as while operating their vehicle. 4. in august, 2003, 2nd tire blew out, causing damage to the travel trailer while operating their vehicle. 5. continental requested the tire be forwarded to their north carolina address for purposes of determining whether the blow out was related to the quality of the tire. i have discussed this case with the pa state consumer protection office and they have advised to follow through with your agency. my clients desire to have their out of pocket expenses, i.e., those not covered by insurance, paid by continental. my understanding is that the company may be willing to pay for same after they have tested the tire. the bigger issue, however, is the fact that these tires are specifically made for travel trailers and 2 tires with little wear have blown out. mr. kern, prior to his retirement, was a mechanic for the pennsylvania state police. he believes, from his experience, that the tires are defective. he wants to replace all of the continentals because he is concerned about future blow outs and what if any damage or injuries may occur. i would prefer to have the tires tested by an agency associated with nhtsa or one which you would refer to prior to sending the tire back to the manufacturer. i do not have any knowledge of an entity to forward same to. the pa state consumer protection office was also unable to direct me to an appropriate testing facility. kindly advise as to the best way to proceed. thank you for your assistance. nancy m. barrasse, esquire blaum|barrasse 108 north washington avenue scranton pa 18503 (570) 961-5535 nanno2d@aol.com cc: mr. & mrs. thomas kern *la
