| Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: incident description: the remote car starter was installed by south salem auto repair. approximately one week later, upon returning home i noticed that the running lights were on even though the car keys were in my hand and the engine was supposed to be off. i brought the car to get the lights disconnected so that the battery wouldn't die. the next morning, upon starting the car without using the remote starter a continual grinding noise occurred and there was a strong smell of smoke. i removed the keys from the ignition and the car wouldn't turn off. my husband eventually disconnected the unit from the battery. the remote starter burned out the starter in the car and we almost had a fire. date of incident = 12/03 product involved = remote control car starter product brand name/manufacturer = designtech international, inc. place where manufactured (city and state or country) = springfield, va |
