Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: During the winter months of 2004-2005 while residing at our home in arizona the 2002 chevrolet pickup with an 8.1 liter engine began to stop running without any indication of any kind of warning or impending problem whatsoever. this would happen often times while traveling in extremely heavy traffic in the phoenix area, creating an unsafe situation for both ourselves and passengers in the vehicle, and those drivers around us. we would never know at any given time when this would happen. we managed to get the vehicle back to the dealership here in iowa. the dealership was very uncooperative about approaching general motors to resolve the problem as a safety issue. we do understand that it was more than a single vehicle occurrence since i have conversed with several other people who own a similar engine vehicle and had similar problem. the dealer finally did resolved the problem by changing the crank shaft sensors with an accompanied approximate $375 repair bill. i did not think that general motors has dealt with owners of this type of vehicle and hopefully they will eventually concede to the fact that this was a case of poor engineering. incidently, this engine was documented with a 100,000 mile warranty but the dealership and general motors saw fit to deny that coverage since they said the crank shaft sensors were not part of the engine. this sounded a little ironical. *ak
