Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: We purchased an evenflo port-about 5 travel system from babies r us in may 2003. our baby was born in july 2003. the complaint we have is with the plastic "chasis" of the seat. on the bottom of the seat (where the strap with buckle that goes between the child's legs is) the metal ring that is sewn to the fabric strap is held in place by two very thin plastic molded clips that are part of the seat. i just had to take the cover off for the first time since we owned this seat to wash it, and when i went to put it back on i noticed that the plastic clips that hold the metal clip in place have stress cracks on them and one does not even hold the clip in place at all. my son (now 8mo) is a very active little guy, and the seat is correctly adjusted to fit him. i am very concerned that this clip will not hold with his movement (squirming) within the seat. with very little effort i can (from the top side) pull and release the strap to the point that the strap and metal clip come through the bottom of the seat. i called the 800 number and reported this to evenflo who informed me that it was no big deal, and that if i just "pull up on it while securing my child that it won't go anywhere. personally i was not impressed with this laid back response. i could not live with myself if my son or someone elses child is injured over something that was reported and "poo-poo'd" by the manufacturer. my current plan is to try to take it back to babies r us, however i do not even know if they will do this. i do not feel my child is safe using this seat. please look into this matter, call me if you need to, i can't see using this seat the way it is....nor recommending it to anyone else. laurl kimpton. *ak
