Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: In april 2004, i purchased a new alpha omega elite for my infant son who just grew out of his infant car seat. i installed the new seat rear facing with the latch system provided. the seat was in the full recline position and required 2 1/2 noodles to be properly reclined. when i got the latch belts tight enough that the seat did not wiggle, the recline slipped out of place such that the seat was no longer fully reclined. i thought perhaps i didn't have it completely in place so i repeated the installation, but continued to have problems. it took at least 3 times to get the seat to install tight enough without it slipping out of full recline. however, one time, it did slip out of recline while my child was in the seat and we were in transit! the next week i traveled to co and installed the seat, rear facing with a lap belt in a sedan. i had the same problem and had to reinstall twice. when we arrived back in wa from our trip, i called and complained to dorel juvenile group. they sent us a new alpha omega elite convertable and prepaid labels to send the first seat back to them. i installed the new seat and had the same problem only worse. in fact, this time it was so bad, that i couldn't get the recline handle to stay in place when the car seat was tightly installed. djg stated that they will refund my money for which i am grateful, but the customer service representative basically told me that i must be installing it incorrectly since it happened to me with two different seats. i disagree with her. i may install my seats tightly, but no car seat should fail in this way. i've never had any other convertable, including the predessor to the elite, slip out of recline. i feel this is a potential safety hazard and am concerned that because no one else has reported it to djg, they will not take it seriously. sincerely, janice e.o'toole, mother of 3 ages 4 1/2, 3, and 10 mos. *ak |
