Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: Carseat complaint - safety 1st model 22-501-wal the cover of this carseat is padded with foam easily accessible by toddlers and small children. my son went through a period where he picked at the seat while i was driving and ate pieces or inserted them in his nostril(s). this resulted in obstruction and infection warranting numerous ent office visits, surgeries, hospital visits, and a head ct. the child suffered difficulty breathing, particularly at night, with apneic episodes. he also had fever, bloody nose, prudulent discharge and loss of appetite. fortunately this phase was short lived and he suffered no permanent effects. the design of this seat cover needs reevaluation - as a mother of 4, i have not experienced this in the past and now only buy carseats with a padded cover that has fabric over both the front (side in contact with the child) and back (side in contact with the seat itself). please note: the incident date is the date of his sinus ct - i assume he inserted the foam sometime 3-5 days prior. *la
