Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: These incidents pertain to a 1997 mercury grand marquis. there was no accident. when making a right-hand turn, the infant safety seat (graco 8649mtr with metropolitan fabric) falls completely to the side/horizontally, and the infant falls forward. this causes the weight of the baby against the harness to injure and possibly cut off the infant's airway. because the seat belt locks, there is no way for the driver to return the car seat to its safe and upright position without finding a safe place to pull over, stop, and get out of the car. furthermore, a weaker or shorter armed driver has no way of manually holding the carseat in a upright position while looking for a place to pull over and fix the carseat, so the infant must lie there frightened and uncomfortable, if not in pain. obviously much worst could have happened, but i hope that this report will help prevent such occurrences. the carseat was installed exactly according to the instructions with the car as well as from the car seat manufacturer, and the installer was using the enclosed metal seatbelt attachment which supposedly should ensure a safe fit. thank you. *nm |
