| Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I stopped to get gas 1 mile from my house on the way to work. i filled the tank and got back in the car. when i tried to start the engine it continued to turn over but would not start. i tried 3 times. a person behind my 2001 suburban noticed gasoline leaking beneath the car. it initially was leaking about a 1/4 gallon per minute. the fire department and hazard response team was called. the spill was limited to 2 gallons. a toe truck took the car to the dealer. the dealer determined that a short had occurred inside the fuel tank which caused the fuel pump to melt and leak to the atmosphere. the service rep (trent) told me he had not seen this before. i was also told that it was unlikely to cause a fire because it is in a low oxygen environment. however, i found several complaints about the same problem with 2001 suburbans on the internet in less than 5 minutes of searching after returning home.*ak the 2001 suburban has only $44,000 miles on it. i believe this is a very serious incident needing immediate remedy from the manufacturer. the cost of the repair was $731.01. a new fuel pump module 25315983 and filter 25171792 was installed. cost of parts alone was $441.88. the rest was tax and labor. in addition i paid towing cost in the amount of $ 99.84. |
