Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: On march 7, 2005, i was driving in reverse out of my driveway in our 2000 lincoln continental. i heard a horrible grinding noise and a loud explosion as the right front tire blew. we tried to change the tire and it was discovered that coil spring had sheared in half, and exploded into the tire. we had to have the car towed, as it was undriveable. the mechanic at the ford dealership where we purchased the car recommended that we replace the other three coil springs as well becuase he said that ford had a recall on the part in mercury sables and ford taurus' but hadn't recalled it for lincolns. he said he had seen a number of the same type of part failure in lincolns. the place where we went to purchase a new tire (the one ruined by the defective coil spring was brand new) said they had seen fifty to sixty customers with the same problem in recent months and five customers in the previous two weeks with lincolns. the mechanic who did the work on the car confirmed that they had seen many of the same types of problems in recent weeks. we called the ford motor company and said we were the first ones to submit a complaint and refused to pay for the damages/parts. *ak |
