Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: The problem was discovered after a stop for fuel during a highway trip. there was no indication of trouble before we stopped for fuel. when we attempted to return to the road we found that the transmission would not engage in either a forward or reverse gear. after checking atm fluid and finding it correct we tried again and found same problem. we finally found that if we increased enginer rpm to approximage 3000 rpm the transmission would begin to engage in third gear with some slippage. the slippage continued until we reached the approximate speed for normal third gear. at normal highway speed the car operated normally but would never shift into 4th gear. we wre able to get home and to the dealer. they told us the transmission had failed and would need to be replaced. one week later after installation of the transmission we were told they did not like the sound of the power steering and would replace that component as well. another week later we got our vehicle back. the dealer claimed they had not seen this problem nor had they been notified of this problem by other dealers. this occurred at 9500 miles.
