Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: The abs system in my 2000 gmc sierra 1500 pickup came on several times while braking on dry pavement, causing me to lose the ability to control my vehicle. after this happened a couple times i was more cautious when stopping, so accidents were avoided - however, before i was ablet to get my vehicle in for service there were several times when i was out of control. this only occurred when i was coming to a stop, and the vehicle had slowed to 5 mph or less. i would not be reporting this but for the fact that the mechanic at my brake shop said he has seen this same problem with several gm trucks of this age. apparently the problem is that the abs sensor, built into the front wheel hubs, is not designed well enough to handle the exposure to road salt and sand common to the northeast. i was lucky that i did not get into an accident due to this problem. but others may not be as fortunate in the future. also, due to the design of the hub/sensor, this repair is rather expensive (almost $400), so i was only able to afford repairs on one side. my mechanic said the other side will likely fail soon as well. *jb |
