Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: dt: te consumer complained about 2005 mobile suites 5th wheel made by doubletree rv i howe, indiana submitting this written complaint to your office because i know of nowhere else to go. my wife and i purchased a 2005 mobile suites 5th wheel made by doubletree rv in howe, indiana two of the four wheels split at a weld and, consequently, two tires could not hold air. had it not been for remote tire pressure monitor, there could have been a catastrophic blowout due to tires going flat. the consumer spoke to a number of rv suspension experts who told him that not only were the wheels defective and didn't carry enough weight rating, (they were undersized, but the axles were inadequate, or undersized for the advertised gvwr. the consumer reported all of this to the manufacturer and the selling dealer by registered letters over a month ago and had no response. the consumer asked for the suspension to be upgraded from 7,000 lb axles with 16 inch wheels to 8,000 pound axles with 17.5 inch wheels/tires. the problem that the consumer complained about was pervasive and affected hundreds of 5th wheel owners who were buying rvs with blind faith that the federal government wouldn't permit a manufacturer to produce unsafe trailers for sale to the public. the consumer claimed that doubletree rv was producing 5th wheels with inadequate suspensions and faulty undersized wheel. he and his wife could very well have lost their lives. the consumer desperately needs help and intervention from nhtsa to prevent further abuse, and in the longer terms we the federal government newest to crack down on all 5th wheel manufacturers who were doing similar things. the consumer was of retirement age and did not have the resources to change 5th wheel suspension to make it safe. the manufacturer needs to step up to the plate and to do the right thing, to replace the faulty suspension and wheels per our request. *ak
