Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I am a senior trooper with the louisiana state police; troop c (gray, la) and am also a certified child seat technician. this afternoon i was requested to help a pregnant lady (and her husband) install a child seat. the child seat information is as follows: make - combi, model - tyro thunder, css model number - 8000-45, manufacture date - 12-17-04. it is a rear facing infant seat with base (and i was told a stroller also). once i placed the base in tight, i attempted to place the car seat onto the base. it would not hold secure. we tried for approximately 15 minutes (also re-reading the instructions) but we weren't able to get the car seat into the base securely. at times we were able to hear the rear latching hook (underneath the back portion of the seat - would be under the child's head) secure into place. i then grabbed the seat and moved it around and it felt secure, however, by pressing very slightly on the area near where the child's feet would be, the whole seat would become dislodged. while looking at the hook underneath where the child's head would be (the hook that latches into the base), it looked as if the hook was too short to ever be able to grasp hold tightly. there were three hooks that held it secure to the base (2 in the front - foot area and one in the rear - underneath the child's head). the parents felt extremely uncomfortable with this as did i. she was due to give birth in the next week or so and she stated that she would return the car seat to where it was purchased. i instructed her to contact combi. i also contacted combi notifying them of this concern. i feel that this is a direct safety concern. if you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the number provided [xxx]. thank you! *nm information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr |
