Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: i have a 2004 hyundai xg350l sedan. i had just come from grocery shopping. i pressed the remote to open the trunk. after the trunk release disengaged, i raised the trunk up to place the groceries in the trunk. as i was putting a bag of groceries in ( and without any warning whatsoever) the trunk "holders" completely failed on both sides and the heavy trunk came crashing down with incredible speed. the force of the trunk coming down was very strong and sudden. i am convinced that i would have encountered a high risk of injury if my response time was not as fast as it was ....allowing me to jump back from the trunk. (i am very short and the upper one third of my body was leaning into the trunk as i put the bag of groceries in). i immediately called hyundai motor company to report what happened i was only able to get to "level one" by talking to a rather disinterested customer service person. i told her this "trunk failure" needed to be reported to the main company to see if it had occurred more than once and whether someone had been hurt by the trunk lid smashing down without any warning . i was able to make an appointment (with some difficulty) a few days later at my local hyundai dealer in holyoke, mass. after repeatedly telling them about the serious risk of injury this trunk failure could have caused. when i did get the car in, the technician determined that both trunk "shocks" had failed. they are "on order". in sum, i definitely feel that there was a risk of a serious upper body injury from the trunk "collapse". my purpose in taking the time to e-mail this complaint is for hyundai motor company to take what happened seriously, keep a record of the incident and, most importantly, determine if this "trunk shock failure" is happening on other 2004 hyundai xg350l models or others. suherateacher @verizon.net . *nm
