Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: Dt: the consumer states that their 1999 gmc c2500 light duty pick up was involved in a crash and the air bags did not deploy. upon further review by gm the vehicle was discovered to not have any air bags in it. the vehicle was bought brand new and the owners were under the pretense that the vehicle was equipped with air bags. the speed of the crash was around 55 mph. the owner of the truck hit a tree head on. the driver of the truck does not remember what caused the wreck. the driver suffered life threatening injuries. he had a broken neck, broken left shoulder and a broken humerus in his left arm along with severe head trauma. the driver did have on his seat belt at the time of the accident. the police report did not determine what caused the accident. there are lots of pictures of the vehicle. there is also an insurance report that could be available. the insurance agent also thought that there was an air bag in the truck. gm sent a representative to inspect the truck. the representative from gm spent an hour looking for the air bag and could not find it. the truck was picked up off the ground on a fork lift and the representative was looking for the air bag censors and still could not find any. gm was also under the impression that there were air bags in the truck. the owners have a letter from gm stating that they retrieved data, photographs and measurements from the vehicle. and they were going to get information from the diagnostic and sensing module. the truck was totaled. the consumer was told that a vehicle weighing more than 8500 pounds does not have to have air bags, the truck missed the weight limit by 100 pounds. *jb
