Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: Dt: 2005 lincoln town car. the consumer wrote a letter to the dealer regarding potential gas tank safety and/or explosion problems that may exist in lincoln town car. have not any gotten any knowledgeable person saying that car was safe. the consumer has not been driving the car. contacted manufacturer, and someone called the consumer back and said the car was safe. the person he talked to said he was the individual responsible for complaints about vehicles. he showed no indication that he was an expert that could speak with authority regarding consumer's vehicle safety. the consumer purchased the vehicle in april 2005. the dealer too vehicle to a gas station ,and it took them 15 minutes to put in six gallons of gas. the dealer contacted ford to get advice on how to correct the problem. ford recommended that a gas tank valve should be replaced. the dealer ordered the recommended gas tank valve. the new valve for a 2005 lincoln town car was received by dealer. the new valve was different than the valve that came with consumer's 2005 lincoln. dealer called ford and informed them that consumer's vehicle was an early 2005 lincoln town car. later models were redesigned for use only on 2005 lincoln town cars. the dealer reordered the older design part that should work on consumer's lincoln. unfortunately the older design part was not readily available. ford put out an order to locate this part, and finally the part was received and reinstalled on vehicle. my car was tested, and the problem seemed to be resolved, but only time will tell. does this gas tank pose a potential safety problem, and if so is it a time bomb ready to go off at any time? consumer asked himself why the part was redesigned for use on later 2005 lincoln town cars. additionally, why was the part not readily available? finally my car was out of service from 08-18-05 to 09-16-05 a total of thirty days. mileage was 5875 and the delivery date forvehicle was april 5, 2005.*ak
