Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I am writing to express dissatisfaction with my 1999 honda accord ex v6,[xxx]. about a week ago my check engine light came on. i checked the code and it indicated torque converter clutch malfunction. the car was shifting and driving fine, so i brought it in to the honda dealer to get the transmission fluid changed. i cleared the error, but it came right back on. the car was shifting and driving fine. today on my way to work at 75 mph at highway speeds, it shifted in to second and stayed there. you can imagine what that did to rpms! now it won't go in to reverse or any other forward gear but second. i called my honda dealer and they said i'm looking at a transmission replacement. $2950 just for the parts (doesn't include labor). that comes with a 36,000 mile warranty that i will easily use up in one year due to my long commute. being that the car has 136,000 miles on it, i figured it was highly regrettable, but understandable. until i started looking online! i suggest you check out this thread! http://www.autofan.com/forum_thread.asp?message=3625 this appears to be very widespread. there are people on that post with 72,000 miles and three dealer replacements, some with six dealer replacements. my big worry now, after reading so many other experiences, is that i'll replace the transmission and be buying another $3000 transmission a year later. *nm updated 07/17/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) |
