Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: 1999 dodge cummins diesel engine; poor design of lift pump and injection pump leads to a variety of failures on 1998.5 through 2002 year models. engine will not accelerate particularly when cold. when leaving stop sign or light, accelerator can be pumped, etc. but engine remains at idle. many owners experience this problem. injection pump - vp44 made by robert bosch. engine by cummins. truck by dodge. won't let my 17 year old drive this vehicle for fear he will do a normal take off and will be broadsided by other traffic when engine does not respond. eventually, lift pump fails leading to injection pump failure. none of the involved manufactures will address the problem. they just continue to sell you replacement parts that fail in a similar manner. *jb |
