| Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I purchased my hyundai elantra 4 door sedan, vin [xxx], on august 31, 2005. when i took the vehicle in to the dealership for the first oil change at 3500 miles there was a brake fluid leak detected in the rear wheel cylinders. they were both replaced at that time under warranty. on february 4, 2006, i took my vehicle in for the 15000 mile check and once again there was a brake fluid leak discovered and both rear wheel cylinders were once again both replaced under warranty. if these items are defective, hyundai should issue a recall rather than simply putting out a technical service bulletin. there are apparently two (2) such bulletins in existence: 1. 04-50-010 nov 04 brakes - rear drum brake wheel cylinder leak inspection, and 2. tnt1510205-001 feb 05 brakes - drum brake wheel cylinder leakage inspection (source http://www.alldata.com/recalls/) i was not advised of any recalls or continuing recalls when i purchased my vehicle in august 2005. i will certainly give hyundai a chance to respond to my concerns, however they do not appear to be interested in sharing this information with perspective buyers. the knowledge of these defects were already known by hyundai well before i purchased my vehicle. i would also like to know the number of elantras that may be affected and if hyundai plans on escalating this issue to a recall? *jb updated 07/17/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) |
