Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: We purchased a 2001 dodge durango when i finished the nursing program and started working. we really wanted a safer car for me to drive my 5 year old and 3 year old little girls. i had a kia sephia before this purchase. we thought we had made a great step up, but i tell you what, what just happened with the durango never would have happened with the kia. my youngest daughter and i were going to some errands before we had to pick my older daughter up from kindergarten. when my daughter came out of the house, our puppy slipped out the door. i was already in the car warming it up and waiting for my daughter to come out. when i noticed the dog slipped out i put the car in park while it was still running so i could catch the puppy. well, she took off up the road, so i decided i would not leave my car running as i attempted to chase down the puppy. so, i opened the passenger side door reached in and turned the key to shut it off and pulled the key out and vehicle started rolling. our driveway has the slightest slope to it, but enough for the rig to get rolling. it took out my garage door. i just thank god that my daughter was standing behind the vehicle and not in front or she would have been ran over. this should not have happened. as you know in most vehicle you can not take the keys out if the vehicle isn't in park. the part is that it didn't role when it was running and in park, but it rolled when it was shut off. the gauge read that it was in park. i have had this happen numerous times between neutral and drive. the gauge says it is in drive and when you step on the gas it doesn't move, it just overworks the motor. i took it in the dodge dealer and he acted like he's never heard of such a thing, but if you get on line you can see it has happened to others. they said i will have to bring it back in and they will have try to get the vehicle to mimic what happened and if they cant get it to do it, there is nothing they can do. *jb
