Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: Sudden tread separation on firestone wilderness ht p215-65r15 tires factory installed as original equipment on 2000 nissan frontier xe 2wd drive vehicle. while driving on i-10 east at 75 mph from phoenix to tucson az, the treads on the front passenger side tire separated with no warning. the vehicle developed a slight wobble similar to that experienced when the wheels are not balanced properly and within minutes, the tread separated and came off completely. the flying shards of tread ripped the molding under the bumper partially off, damaged the right turn light mechanism and caused minor dents and paint work damage to the vehicle. lost control of the vehicle for a brief instant but as there were no other vehicles in the immediate vicinity thankfully there was no serious damage or bodily injury. completed trip on spare tire and immediately replaced all 4 tires on the vehicle. tires had ~37000 miles on them and had plenty of tread left as the miles were mostly slow city miles. the damaged tire is available for inspection. *nm
