Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: Defective design of air bag sensor system. this system deactivates the frontal passenger airbag for passengers of less than a fixed weight, for the protection of small children. however, there is no manual override, and the system deactivates for teens and adults also, of at least 90 lbs. weight. thus, there is no airbag protection for my wife, who weighs 90 lbs. her weight will not activate the airbag system, and there is no manual way to turn it on. this is a serious injury waiting to happen, for any small woman or adolescent or older child who wishes to use the front passenger seat: they have an airbag but it will not operate for them. i was told by the dealership that this new truck comes this way, and cannot be fixed. a call to chevrolet resulted in the same response. "the unit is up to design code - hence, there is no problem." there certainly is a problem. *nm |
