Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: My fiance was driving my 2004 gmc envoy suv. while driving reported to be approximately 40 mph; the car in front of her slammed on her brakes, she attempted to brake, swerved to the right to avoid the car in front of her, crashing into a utility pole. she was wearing her seat belt. during this time neither the driver or passenger side airbag deployed. she was taken by ambulance treated for scrapes & bruises, pain, minor injuries, major injuries ruled out by x-rays & ct scans, then released. i understand the theory " if a person is able to walk away from the crash the vehicle did it's job." my concern was not much of a concern until the responding emt's, officers, and mechanic at the place where the car is currently stored all voiced concerns regarding the fact no airbag deployed in this accident. i also became concerned after seeing the damage done to the vehicle. we are not officially sure of the status of the car at this time as we are still waiting to hear from the adjuster. however, the mechanic & responding officer believe it is totaled. the entire front window shattered, passenger side door is ripped off hanging on a thread, the entire front end/grill ripped off, both headlights crushed, the passenger side headlight is no longer there, the passenger side front tire entirely missing along with anything holding it in place, the glove compartment is almost touching the front passenger seat. the passenger seat was pushed back toward the back seat of the car as well. my fiance was alone in the vehicle, the concern is if she hadn't been, what would have happened to a passenger...clear speculation , but the airbag may have been the only saving grace a passenger would have had. we have contacted the dealership, gm, and consumer affairs, and now nhtsa with this concern. thank you for taking the time to review this report. *jb
