Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: My beautiful 32-yr. old daughter was killed recently when the vehicle she was driving, a 2004 jeep liberty, was rear-ended on the interstate by a ford f-150 going 60 mph. within seconds of the impact, her vehicle exploded and burst into flames. as a result, my daughter burned to death. since my daughter's death, i have learned that the fuel tank and filler neck on the jeep liberty (and jeep grand cherokee) was designed and installed in a location (behind the rear bumper) that is susceptible to rupture or puncture in a rear-end collision. when gasoline escapes from a ruptured or punctured fuel tank, a high risk of fire and explosion exists. because of this terrible tragedy and tremendous loss of such a beautiful life, i feel an obligation to warn everyone of the potential danger when driving these vehicles. chrysler knows about this problem as they have had other lawsuits regarding fires and fuel tank explosions, but it's less costly for them to settle out of court then to redesign or recall the vehicle. chrysler doesn't want the public to know, but i think the public has a right to know. *jb |
