Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I was getting my children out of the minivan and used the automatic door button on the inside of the van to close the door. as the door closed, my 2 yr old suddenly slipped her fingers into the path and the door fully closed on her 2 fingers. i immediately used my remote to open the door and released her fingers and it did not respond after several attempts. i attempted to open the door manually and realized it was locked, and it would not unlock with the remote either. i had to use my key to open the front passenger door and then unlock the doors from within the car and then manually open the door her fingers were stuck in. her fingers appeared completely flat when i was able to remove them but although they were very bruised and swollen for a week or two, they were not broken. i feel we were very lucky that she was so young and small that her fingers were not hurt more and that she had not managed to get her entire hand into the door. the incident happened about a year ago and i assumed it was a fluke accident and did not report it sooner. i am reporting it now because i recently read of this happening to other children with more serious consequences and want to add to the record with our experience. we have been very cautious with our children around the doors and do not close them anymore until we have started walking away from the car but i still worry about them when they are in the car and the doors close. *jb |
