Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: Dometic refrigerator recall #06e-076 / nhtsa # 06e76000. my complaint or concern is about the repair/correction of this safety/fire item. the dometic people say that there is a chance of a fatigue crack in the boiler tube of the refrigerator causing a fire. they tell you how to identify the area and the possible release of a flammable substance, and they tell you how this could result in a vehicle fire (which would destroy my motor home). they send an information sheet on how to shut off the gas at the refrigerator and how important it is to do this. then the correction to the problem is not to repair the parts but to hide them. the repair is to add several pieces of sheet metal around the burner area, this sheet metal wraps around the burner and the shut off valve making it impossible to inspect or clean the burner or to get to the shutoff valve. so now i am left with a refrigerator that is still a hazard but that i am unable to inspect for the problem and unable to shut off if i suspect a problem. this does not seem to me to be a safe correction to a fire safety problem. this is more like a cheap way to attempt to pacify people into thinking they are correcting the fire/safety problem. i think this recall and the correction for it needs to be reevaluated by the nhtsa before a fire destroys someone's motor home and possibly takes their life. *jb
