Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: I was traveling at about 60 mph in the far left lane on 490 w in rochester ny on saturday may 12, 2007 when i felt the accelerator pulled away from my foot. the car proceed to accelerate on its own. i looked at the dash to see if the cruise-control had somehow come on but it had not. i then tapped the brake to see if the acceleration would back off. it did not and i was now moving at about 80 mph with the engine revving over 5000 rpms . i proceed to apply the brake very hard with one feet and then both feet to prevent from driving into the back of the cars in front of me. i was literally standing on the brake with both feet to try to negate some of the speed. the car was going over 90 mph when i was able to pull over to the right side of the rode and drive off the road. once i got to the shoulder, i jammed the car into neutral and the engine made a loud grinding noise for a period as i continued speeding down the shoulder. it finally stopped revving ,and i was then able to stop and put the vehicle in park. my husband reported to me that a similar thing happened to him last week when backing out of the driveway.*ak the flat bed driver reported to the dealer that the vehicle speedometer read 40 mph when he was driving the vehicle onto the flat bed, yet the vehicle was not going that fast.
