Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: Premature perforated corrosion of entire steel brake line of my 1999 ford expedition eddie bauer 5.4l 4wd was discovered after my brake warning light went on without any perceived problem with braking noted. inspection of the brakes by a non-dealer vendor revealed a well maintained brake system except for severe corrosion of the entire brake line system with a leak above the gas tank suspected. no repairs were started and the vehicle was immediately delivered to the dealer (al packer ford). the dealer reported that the brake line had corroded through close to the master cylinder and was leaking brake fluid down the entire length of the brake line. customer has authorized replacement of the entire corrosion ridden brake line setup at an estimated cost of $700.00 + that so far is not covered by ford. the dealer has been instucted to hold all removed parts for inspection. review of reports submitted by others re brake line corrosion and brake failure events and report of this event to ford for consideration for coverage as a manufacturer defect in material (inferior steel brake-line susceptible to rust perforating corrosion) did not generate an offer for coverage or technical bulletin advising these components be closely inspected for this potentially life-threatening and unexpected source of brake failure as well as a potential risk for unexpected vehicle fire. i request a technical bulletin and/or recall for inspection for corrosion of brakelines on all ford expeditions. hopefully we may save some-one's life from tragedy. *tr |
