Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: I installed, on 6/27/2007, a tie down engineering model 81093 galvenized 1750# hub kit on my rear axle on my boat trailer. i installed the tire on rim on the hub using a torgue wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the correct torque of 70 ft/lbs. no anti -seize was used on the stud bolts nor lug nuts. a day later a found a sheared off stud and lug nut on the ground next to the trailer. the trailer had not been moved. i returned the faulty hub to west marine and received a replacement which i installed on 7/4/2007 using the same method of installation as before. i drove the boat/trailer approximately 80 miles to a launch ramp and back. upon inspecting the trailer at the end of the trip, the second hub i installed on 7/4/2007 had a sheared off stud bolt. i have talked to local trailer experts and no one has ever heard of a stud bolts breaking in the manner that i have experienced. i am concered that tie down engineering is using faulty stud bolts in the manufacturing of this hub kit. |
