Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: I purchased a set of 4 firestone steeltex radial 245/75r 16 e-range tires for my pickup 3 or 4 years ago. the tires have approximately 20-25 thousand miles on them. in june of this year one of the tires showed the beginnings of a tread separation of about 4 inches along the tread line of the tire. several weeks ago (sept, 07) one of the rear tires experienced a total separation of the tire tread while driving at 55 mph. the tread separation occurred at exactly the same point as the tire which failed several months earlier. all tires are maintained at the vehicle manufacturers recommended load of 50 front and 80 rear. pressures are checked twice monthly. none of the tires have been repaired. the last tire failure which led to a violent tread separation did $2406.00 worth of damage to the rear fender of my pickup. since two of the four tires have experienced tread separation, i no longer feel safe with the other two tires. i feel lucky that there was no personal injury...yet. *jb
