Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: We have a 98 jetta and it has a problem with the electric window mechanisms. volkswagen is aware of the defect, however they only repair the defect on 99 and newer models. why? the dealer agrees that it is the same exact problem. we started to replace the mechanism ourselves, however the only replacement available was the same defective mechanism. the cable saws through parts within the mechanism which binds the motor causing it to make a grinding noise, overheat, blow fuses, etc. we have to just leave the windows up and not use them at all. we noticed an irregularity when we purchased the vehicle, but the dealer told us that it was a programmable control and we would have to learn to use it. *la
