Was Vehicle Towed: - | Description of the Complaints: For about 100 miles or so before total failure, we noticed a slight whining sound, plus some instances of slightly erratic shifting. a check of the transmission fluid showed it to be at the proper level. it looked clean, and had no burned smell. the transmission quit working at estelline, texas, on us 287. i had to call a towing service, and was towed to childress, texas. ther are no plymouth or chrysler dealers in childress, so we went to a local transmission shop. they were able to get the transmission repaired in about a week , at a cost of $1772.50. towing was $60. the mechanic said that the bushing in front pump apparently became loose and started spinning, causing very rapid wear, and damage to other parts. he had to install new front pump and forward drum assemblies, as well as other parts. i feel extremely unhappy about the expense, as well as the considerable personal inconvenience this incident caused. i have never abused the transmission, and have seen that it had normal maintenance, and i don't think it should fail at only 52000 miles. *ak |
