Was Vehicle Towed: - Description of the Complaints: This is the 2nd occurence of the same problem, the engine cranks excessively and when it does start ,it acts as if it is not getting fuel or too much fuel., not allowing smooth running for a few minutes, not to mention the wearing down of the battery, which has been replaced once on this car. upon the 1st occurence, a fuel pump replacement solved the problem, until now. this is the 2nd incident of the same nature,.i contactied the service department and described the same situation and hearing a slight muffled honking noise at intermittment levels while garage parked. i took the car to the dealership and left it for routine maintence, as they are the only ones to work on the car, and to have on this this problem solved completely, as is is the second occurence in a year's time. i called the service representative who stated that there is no problem that can be found by the technician..yet the service represenative stated that 1995/ 1996 models were designed to crank longer before start, according to research from service bulletins, yet mentions notthing of not running after start or the noise from the engine while parked. this car was bought at 18,000 miles under a certified lexus auto program, with warranty ,thorough check out & replacement of any defective parts prior to sale, according to the dealer and maufacturer's progarm. they have done all maintenence on this car.this is the 2nd lexus ls400 i've owned and the other, 1994, i drove 3 years without any fuel system problems.something is awry with this system. experience with lexus, and service bulletin warnings of this starting problem verify this. as to the nature of the true problem. is it just a pump? a sensor, computer or injection problem? nothing is being done to solve this, exept my research in your bulletins and other resources. i am concerned persoanally, as well as, for other's with this problem. time is crucial due to the seasonal cold weather and slower starting, possibly leaving driver's starnded.
