| Subject: CUMMINS ENGINES / FUEL LINE BRACKETS | Summary: New flyer industries ltd. submitted a defect and noncompliance information report involving certain transit buses built with cummins isl and isc diesel engines.new flyer found that these engines contain high pressure fuel lines that can fail from excessive vibration.if a high pressure fuel line fails and atomized fuel is leaked into the engine compartment, a fire is possible.rmd mailed information request letters to 28 vehicle manufacturers in january 2008.gillig corporation responded that they had previously filed a defect report in november 2006.blue bird body company, nova bus inc, eldorado national, and north american bus industries agreed that a safety defect was evident in the engines and chose to file defect reports accordingly.the remaining 23 oems responded stating no issue has ever been found, these engines were never received, or that their particular application is considerably different than the transit bus engine installations and no action is necessary.since the opening of this eq, cummins has chosen to conduct a field campaign to repair the affected engines for on-highway applications.the oem response list can be found in the eq repository.this eq is closed. |
