Defect Summary : Under high ambient temperatures (greater than 95 degrees fahrenheit) and the fuel tank level between 1/4 and 1/2 full, the fuel tank internal pressure can increase causing the tank to expand. tank expansion causes an interference between the fuel tank protective shield and the propeller shaft resulting a hole in the fuel tank at the point of shield-to-shaft contact. |
Consequence Summary: This condition can cause fuel leakage, and if an ignition source is present, could result in a fire. |
Corrective Summary : Dealers will install a supplemental fuel tank venting system on these vehicles. |
